WHY COULDN'T HE HAVE JUST SEEN THE THING?!
I feel the disappointment of "Cloverfield" all over again. it's all documented nicely and everything.....BUT YOU NEVER FIND OUT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
This is too similar to "The Descent" ....except in the movie, you know what the monsters are.
Whatever though. Just wasted about two hours of my life. No biggie.

Can I make the obvious connection that, in reading the story, the reader himself becomes the caver? You keep clicking through this scary black minimalist webpage, despite not knowing what's ahead--even the dread of opening the pictures is like sticking your head in a small, dark hole. And in the end, you don't know what's on Page 11, because Ted doesn't know what's behind the round rock. You've both gone down into the darkness.

I like to think the cave monster is actually a person and when these two characters from the story went back they just became the monsters themselves. Like for the story to work let's say there are mysterious powers at work there and so whoever comes into contact with it is compelled to return, only to become another part of it. So you could take that as either they are apathetic to whether new people come along, or the screams are a warning to stay out. The shifting air current would be from the big rock moving to block of the flow of air and the almost-constant rumbling would be that wind whipping around in the caves.

Personally I would have waited for whatever was climbing up the rope to finish and show itself. I would be in the car ready to put the pedal to the floor though haha. Or on my return trip I would have taken a couple park rangers and maybe an anthropologist who studied the ancient and more recent people of the area.
